It was posted on 29 October 2026 and expires in 21 days. This is a senior generalist role for an experienced human resources professional who can give advanced technical support across the full range of HR functions, in line with the organisation’s human resources framework and employment legislation.
About the company and the work
The Financial Intelligence Centre is the employer behind this vacancy, and the role sits at the heart of its people function. Rather than covering a single HR specialism, the Senior HR Generalist supports managers and employees across recruitment, onboarding, employment equity, HR systems, policy, reporting, wellness, performance management, labour relations and training. The generalist also acts as a technical reference for other HR generalists and administrators, reviewing their work and coaching them, which makes this a role for someone who is both hands-on and able to guide others.
Role details and duties
In recruitment and selection, the generalist facilitates recruitment and selection in line with internal policies, the employment equity plan and relevant legislation, acts as a technical reference on recruitment processes and employment programmes, advises on tactics, support and processes for identifying, recruiting and retaining the human resources the Centre needs, helps identify and implement efficient and effective recruiting methods, and contributes to guidelines and tools such as screening processes. The role also covers monitoring and evaluating recruitment strategies and plans and making recommendations, helping establish assessment methods to test candidates on job-related skills, analysing recruitment metrics such as time-to-hire and source of hire and making recommendations, advising management on the effective use of the e-recruitment platform, and consolidating recruitment reports from HR team members for the manager’s review.
On onboarding, the generalist onboards new employees in line with the onboarding programme, contributes to reviewing and maintaining onboarding processes so new employees are fully integrated, and takes part in onboarding activities. On employment equity and transformation, the role contributes to strategies to achieve employment equity objectives in line with best practice, facilitates workforce analysis and makes recommendations, takes part in diversity management and awareness sessions, assists the employment equity governance structures and gives technical advice, conducts quarterly audits against the approved Employment Equity Plan for manager review, and consolidates and submits data for Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment verification processes.
On HR systems, the generalist serves as subject matter expert and a key resource for HRIS selection and implementation, helps identify efficiencies through automation in business processes, takes part in developing and analysing workflows and designing functionality, conducts people data analytics and reporting and advises management, liaises between HR, third parties and other stakeholders on HR database design and implementation, monitors employment data on the HRIS, and advises management on HR risk. On policy, the role covers research, stakeholder consultation and review of existing policies and procedures, and drafting required policies or procedures in line with prevailing HR practices and legislation. The generalist also compiles and consolidates HR operations reports and dashboards for management, facilitates and coordinates employee wellness initiatives, gathers data to decide what extra steps should be taken, and contributes to plans for improving employee health and wellness.
Further duties cover performance management, including facilitating and implementing the performance management process and policies, coaching, empowering and advising management and employees on the system, and contributing to the enhancement of the framework. On labour relations, the generalist monitors the internal environment for potential conflicts and acts proactively to prevent conflict, advises managers on labour relations matters in line with relevant policies and legislation, and facilitates the speedy resolution of grievances and disputes. The role supports talent development with training and development initiatives, and in general HR work provides advice, guidance and empowerment to management and employees on the HR framework, collaborates closely with the HR team, liaises with HR service providers, reviews and maintains personnel records in line with applicable laws, acts as a technical reference coach reviewing the work of generalists and administrators, reviews HR submissions and related documents before they go to HR management, maintains confidentiality and professionalism with sensitive information, performs any other duty as assigned, and assists in facilitating HR interventions, processes or systems through adopted change management.
Requirements
Only what the source advert states is listed here. Applicants need a degree qualification in HR Management at NQF level 7 or a related field, and a minimum of five to eight years of HR generalist experience in providing and executing a human resources framework. The advert also requires strong analytical skills, demonstrated communication and writing skills, and demonstrated knowledge of employment legislation. No other qualifications or experience are stated, so nothing has been added here.
Where to find and apply safely
Apply through the original CareerJunction advert using the Apply button on this page, which leads to the employer’s listing. Apply only through the original advert and never through a link sent to you by an unknown third party. A genuine employer will never ask you to pay a fee to apply, to be shortlisted or to secure an interview, so treat any payment request as a red flag and stop.
Practical tips
Before applying, check your CV against the two headline requirements: the HR Management degree at NQF level 7 or a related field, and five to eight years of generalist experience. Because the role spans so many HR areas, give one concrete example for each of the main ones you have handled, especially recruitment, employment equity, HRIS work and labour relations, and show where you advised managers or acted as a technical reference for colleagues. Make sure your application reads clearly and professionally, since demonstrated communication and writing skills are themselves a stated requirement.
How the process works
Applications are submitted through the original advert. The employer assesses applications against the stated requirements and contacts candidates who meet them to take the process further. If you are shortlisted, expect questions about your generalist experience across the key performance areas, your knowledge of employment legislation, and how you have supported managers and coached HR colleagues. Keep a copy of the original advert and your application so you can refer back to the exact requirements at each stage.
