An interview is your chance to turn a good CV into a job offer. Preparation is what separates confident candidates from nervous ones.
Before the interview
- Research the company: what it does, its size, its recent news.
- Re-read the advert and match your experience to each requirement.
- Prepare 3β4 short stories about your work: the situation, what you did, and the result.
- Plan your route and arrive 15 minutes early β or test your video link the day before for online interviews.
Questions you will almost certainly face
- “Tell me about yourself” β keep it under two minutes: background, strengths, why this role.
- “Why do you want this job?” β talk about the role and the company, not just the salary.
- “What is your greatest weakness?” β pick a real one and show what you are doing about it.
- “Do you have any questions for us?” β always ask one. Ask about the team, the first 90 days, or how success is measured.
On the day
Dress one step smarter than the job requires. Listen fully before answering. Be honest about what you do not know β and say how you would find out. Thank the interviewer at the end and follow up with a short thank-you message the same day.
Salary questions
If asked about salary expectations, give a researched range for the role and province rather than a single number, and say you are open to discussing the full package.
