The Wright Recruitment is looking for a Sales Representative for sporting medical products in Durban. This is a permanent, full-time role offering R25000 – 35000 CTC plus commission. It suits a confident, organised salesperson who understands sport, injury and rehabilitation products and enjoys building lasting customer relationships.
About the company and the work
The role is with a manufacturer in sporting equipment and products. You will sell to a sports-focused customer base that includes schools and school uniform shops, school sports departments, sports clubs and academies, universities and tertiary sports departments, and provincial and national sports organisations. Your work will combine new business development with looking after existing accounts, so product knowledge and good service matter as much as closing a sale.
Role details and duties
- Generate new sales leads and convert them into long-term customers.
- Manage different customer segments with tailored sales approaches.
- Explain and demonstrate how products work, their benefits and correct application, including in-practice and on-site demonstrations and basic staff training.
- Grow sales with existing customers through structured account development plans and turn new business into repeat, planned purchasing.
- Maintain and develop relationships with potential and existing customers, and log interactions, follow-ups and opportunities accurately.
- Provide quotations and follow through to order closure, and follow up customer queries where necessary.
- Plan and run weekly and monthly sales routes in line with territory priorities, and give structured feedback to management on product performance and customer needs.
- Monitor competitors and market trends, and provide daily, weekly and monthly sales reports and forecasts.
- Achieve and exceed monthly sales budgets and targets, and keep accurate sales, call and expense records.
Requirements
- Matric, with further studies in physiology or anatomy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience in one or more of these areas: sports equipment sales, school or institutional sales, B2B sales, medical consumables or sports medical supplies, or retail supply to uniform shops or sports retailers.
- Experience selling to schools, sports organisations or institutions, with a proven ability to build long-term customer relationships.
- Strong new business development skills, including cold calling and lead generation.
- A strong understanding of anatomy, injury mechanisms, rehabilitation and recovery principles, and of product application.
- The ability to work independently, plan and organise work, communicate clearly and prepare accurate documentation and reports.
- Your own vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
Experience in a similar market, in a sport-orientated industry, or working with schools is an advantage, as is a background as a former sports representative, sports retail representative, school sports coordinator or sports equipment representative.
