Scheme Assistant Accountant Jobs in South Africa

Universal Health is looking for a Scheme Assistant Accountant in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, on a permanent, full-time basis. The role supports the scheme finance team by preparing and maintaining financial records, watching over the bank account and handling the day-to-day financial administration that keeps a medical scheme running smoothly.

About the company and the work

Universal Health works in medical, health and social care. In this role, you will assist the Scheme Accountant and Scheme Finance Manager, giving them reliable reconciliations, reports and payment support while also dealing with providers, clients and brokers when queries arise.

Role details and duties

Your work will include checking debit order files for validity and accuracy, completing weekly claims run reconciliations, reconciling commissions and preparing and distributing commission statements, and resolving commission queries. You will also generate and check monthly reports, import information into the accounting system, prepare monthly supplier, debtors, members portion and personal medical savings reconciliations, and keep the related age analyses up to date. Daily work includes processing payments and receipts, preparing bank reconciliations and standard journals, following up outstanding invoices, updating standard operating procedures, preparing payment requisitions, updating supplier bank details, and helping with statutory returns to the Council for Medical Schemes.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Commerce or a relevant diploma
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• Experience in Sage 50 and Business Central would be an advantage
• Experience in the medical scheme industry would be an advantage
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy, strong administrative and organisational skills, honesty and reliability, high ethical and professional standards, ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proficiency in English
