Lead Post Qualification Jobs in Johannesburg

SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) · Johannesburg
Market Related Senior Level

Professionals in a learning session

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) is looking for a Lead: Post Qualification in Johannesburg. This senior, permanent role sits at the heart of how qualified chartered accountants keep learning after they qualify: shaping the post-qualification learning and development strategy, building the competency framework behind it, and overseeing the content, quality and stakeholder engagement that bring it to life.

About the company and the work

SAICA is the leading accountancy body in South Africa. It is currently transforming into an insights-driven, technology-enabled and AI-powered organisation, streamlining its processes, strengthening its digital capabilities and sharpening its focus on sustainability in the accounting profession. This role contributes directly to that vision, in a redefined, future-fit position for a suitably qualified professional who is eager to innovate, embrace data-driven decision-making and help shape the future of the profession.

The post-qualification space covers members and associates who have already qualified and must keep their professional competence current through continuing professional development (CPD). The Lead ensures that what SAICA offers those members is relevant, well designed, quality assured and clearly communicated.

Role details and duties

The role is based in Johannesburg, is a permanent appointment, and the salary is stated as market related. The advert’s reference number is 2313194, it is an Employment Equity position, and applications close on 28 December 2026.

The purpose of the job is the identification, quality assurance and implementation of relevant learning and development interventions, and support in developing learning and development interventions for trainees. That work covers three competency types: professional values and attitudes, enabling competencies, and technical competencies in the value creation process. It also includes the development, review and communication of the SAICA CPD policy and supporting guidance.

The key outputs are:

  • Post-qualification learning and development strategy: providing input into the strategy so that what SAICA offers stays relevant, and executing it by identifying suitable learning interventions and activities, advising on the most appropriate ways to offer them, integrating the competency types, and formulating and implementing plans and programmes that develop and promote the profession.
  • Post-qualification competency framework: developing, or revising, technical and non-technical competency guides and material, and keeping abreast of developments related to the CA Pathways to Relevance competency framework.
  • Learning and development content: identifying and curating relevant learning and development for members and associates, engaging stakeholders to identify their learning needs, researching new trends in modes of learning, identifying and contracting external providers for live and other offerings, implementing quality assurance over content and interventions, and managing programmes in line with SAICA procurement and related requirements.
  • External stakeholder engagement and communication: building relationships with members, associates and other education stakeholders, developing and implementing an annual stakeholder engagement plan, and responding to member and associate queries within set turnaround times and agreed satisfaction levels.
  • CPD policy: ongoing review of the CPD policy in line with worldwide best practice, developing guidance and resources to support members in meeting its requirements, and communicating those requirements regularly to members and associates.
  • Internal stakeholder engagement, risk and compliance: building relationships with internal stakeholders such as Procurement, Finance, Risk and Contracts, following up on projects to ensure execution, identifying and recording risks, and reporting risk events.
  • General management: managing the related budget, finance and administrative matters, identifying and mitigating risks, maintaining the risk register and risk management plans, preparing control risk assessments and reports for internal committees and EXCO, meeting objectives and targets set out in the SAICA and personal scorecard, managing projects under the SAICA protocol, and preserving and expanding the Institute’s intellectual capital.
  • Transformation: contributing to cost containment, supporting SAICA’s transformation into an insights-driven organisation by leveraging data and analytics, using digital and AI-driven tools to improve efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness, and identifying and supporting the management of sustainability-related risks.

Requirements

Only what the source states is listed here:

  • Formal education: CA(SA).
  • Experience: 5 years post qualification in a technical and management environment, and 3 years’ experience in a learning and development environment, including competency framework development and course development and design.
  • A further qualification in learning and development is advantageous, for example a higher certificate or diploma.
  • Knowledge and understanding of: the SAICA Constitution, By-laws and structures; professional accountancy education systems; the SAICA Competency Framework, both pre- and post-qualification; assessment processes; learning and development methodologies, including adult learning; competency framework development; course development and course design; CPD policies; and quality assurance processes, including recognition of other professional bodies.
  • Knowledge and skills in: business acumen; financial knowledge; performance management; HR policy and procedures; information technology; governance and compliance; risk and compliance; the SAICA CPD policy, at an advanced level; and education theory (pedagogy), at an advanced level.

Where to find and apply safely

Apply only through the original Careers24 advert linked from this page. Do not pay anyone for a job offer, an interview slot or placement, and do not share bank details or identity documents with anyone who contacts you outside the official application route.

Practical tips

  • Show the two experience tracks separately: five years post-qualification technical and management experience, and three years in learning and development, with competency framework and course design work called out explicitly.
  • Give concrete examples of learning interventions you have designed, quality assured or delivered, and of CPD policy work you have contributed to.
  • Highlight stakeholder work on both sides: members and associates externally, and procurement, finance, risk and contracts colleagues internally.
  • Because the role blends professional standards with digital transformation, mention experience with data, digital tools or AI-driven ways of working where you genuinely have it.

How the process works

Applications go to SAICA through the original advert. Shortlisted candidates can expect further screening against the CA(SA) requirement and the stated experience, followed by interviews. Because the role carries budget, risk and reporting responsibilities, applicants should be ready to discuss how they have managed programmes, risks and stakeholder commitments in previous roles.

This post is for information only and is not the job offer itself. Always confirm the full details, including the closing date, in the original advert before applying. The linked advert states applications close on 28 December 2026, and the role is listed as an Employment Equity position.
