Inventory Manager Jobs in Durban

Warehouse shelves with stocked boxes

A distribution centre in Durban is looking for an Inventory Manager to take ownership of stock across the site. This is a permanent management role with DCV Sabenza IT and Recruitment, and it suits someone who enjoys bringing order, accuracy and cost discipline to a busy warehouse operation. You will set the inventory direction, keep stock available when it is needed, and lead the team that makes it happen day after day.

About the company and the work

Sabenza IT is a South African registered recruitment business that focuses on finance, engineering, SAP and general IT recruitment, with more than 18 years of experience recruiting in South Africa, Australia, Europe, South America and Asia. In this role, you will work inside a distribution centre, where inventory accuracy directly affects service levels, costs and the ability of the wider business to plan with confidence. The listing location is Durban, in the Durban CBD area, and the advert is posted for a permanent management position. The role carries a reference of 878000025200224 and, at the time of listing, an expiry window of 13 days, so interested candidates should not delay checking the original advert.

Role details and duties

As Inventory Manager, you will own inventory across the distribution centre. That means setting and running an inventory strategy that lines up with the business, covering planning, availability and cost. You will analyse stock holdings against history, stock takes, cycle counts and movements, and you will fix the gaps you find. A core part of the job is monitoring inventory levels so that stock is available on time while holding costs stay down.

You will also manage the inventory team, providing guidance, training and performance management, and you will keep communication clear between the distribution centre and head office. Close working relationships with merchandising, planning and operations are part of the role, so that inventory control stays tight across functions. Storage must remain compliant with health and safety law and site standards.

A distinctive part of this position is acting as first-line support for the warehouse management system (WMS) in the distribution centre. That covers receiving, put-away, picking, packing and cycle counts. You will investigate stock variances, exception reports and failed transactions, escalate system defects, keep warehouse master data clean — including locations, bins, cartons, pallets and stock status — train staff on WMS procedures, enforce the controls, and produce and read WMS reports and KPIs on accuracy, picking, receiving and user activity.

Requirements

Only the requirements stated in the source advert are listed here. Applicants should hold a Grade 12 certificate and a tertiary qualification relevant to the role. Experience requirements are five to seven years in logistics, supply chain or a related field, including at least two to three years in a leadership or management role. The advert also asks for strong knowledge of warehouse management systems and warehouse operations, including RF scanning, inventory control and warehouse system reporting, and the ability to read system reports, trace transaction flow and find the root cause of a variance. Strong Excel and MS Office skills, along with strong verbal and written communication skills, are required. Attributes named in the advert include attention to detail and accuracy, accountability, teamwork, integrity, reliability and consistency, and adaptability. Desired skills listed are inventory management, WMS, supply chain, cycle counts and team leadership, and the desired qualification level is a diploma.

Where to find and apply safely

This is an informational listing only. The safest way to apply is through the original CareerJunction advert, using the Apply button on this page, which leads to the source listing. Read the full advert there, check that the role, location and requirements still match what you expect, and apply only through that official route. Never pay anyone to secure a job, and be cautious of anyone asking for fees, bank details or personal documents outside the official application process.

Practical tips

Before applying, gather evidence of your inventory and WMS experience: examples of cycle-count programmes you have run, variances you have investigated and resolved, and reporting you have used to improve accuracy. Be ready to talk about how you have balanced availability against holding cost, and how you have coached a team through system changes. A short, clear CV that highlights distribution-centre experience, leadership and WMS work will help your application stand out.

How the process works

Applications are made through the original advert on CareerJunction. The recruiter reviews applications against the stated requirements and contacts shortlisted candidates for the next steps. Because this is a management role with a defined expiry window, early applications are advisable. Keep a copy of your application and note the reference number 878000025200224 when following up.
