A long-established education-focused non-profit organisation in Sandton is looking for a Grant Writer / Fundraising Research Coordinator to support the growth and sustainability of its programmes through exceptional grant writing, donor reporting and fundraising research. The role starts on 11 January 2027 and is advertised through BM Recruitment.
About the company and the work
The organisation is a long-standing education-focused NPO with international offices, working to make a real change by providing poverty alleviation through education via various projects and events. The role exists to support the growth and sustainability of its programmes, and covers the full fundraising cycle: researching funding opportunities, developing high-quality concept notes, grant applications and funding proposals, preparing accurate donor reports, and supporting the wider fundraising function through prospect research, fundraising systems and donor communications.
Role details and duties
Grant writing and proposal development duties include researching and identifying appropriate local and international funding opportunities, developing compelling grant applications, concept notes, letters of inquiry and donor proposals, coordinating organisational inputs for submissions, working with the Financial Manager or Accounts Assistant to prepare and interpret budgets, managing the proposal process from opportunity identification through development and submission, reviewing submissions for accuracy, completeness, consistency, quality and funder compliance, and maintaining a library of current organisational, programme and proposal information and templates. Fundraising research duties cover researching foundations, trusts, corporations, government agencies and international donors, assessing prospective funders, tracking emerging opportunities and maintaining an active pipeline of prospective donors. Donor relationship work includes serving as a point of contact for prospective and existing donors, coordinating follow-ups, preparing cover letters and submission packages, and supporting the COO and CEO with strategic donor engagement. Reporting duties include preparing and submitting accurate, comprehensive and timely donor reports, coordinating due-diligence and compliance documentation, monitoring reporting obligations, translating programme activities and impact into clear donor reports, maintaining a grant-reporting calendar and records of grant conditions, and completing reporting for crowdfunding platforms including GlobalGiving. Systems and communications work covers maintaining the CRM, fundraising databases, grant trackers and dashboards, analysing the grant pipeline, preparing fundraising reports for leadership and the Board, gathering evidence and statistics for proposals, producing Mailchimp newsletters for donor engagement and impact storytelling, and coordinating digital crowdfunding campaigns.
Requirements
The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional writing and editing skills, strong research and analytical capability, coordination, time-management and deadline management, budget interpretation and donor-compliance understanding, high attention to detail and documentation accuracy, the ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision, and natural curiosity and a willingness to learn the organisation’s programmes in depth. Minimum requirements are preferably an Honours degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Social Sciences or a related field, strong computer literacy with document management, databases and related tools, demonstrated high-level writing, research and analytical ability, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and information sources to a high degree of accuracy. Preferred or advantageous experience includes previous grant writing, proposal development, donor reporting, fundraising research or related work, experience within the NPO, education, development or social-impact sector, familiarity with CRM or donor-management systems and grant-tracking tools, experience with Mailchimp or similar communication platforms, experience interpreting or developing budgets for funding proposals, and a Master’s degree in a relevant field, which would be advantageous but is not essential. The advert states that only candidates who have reviewed the full job brief and meet the minimum requirements should apply. No experience level label is stated.
