About the company and the work
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is one of South Africa’s leading pharmacy and retail groups, with stores combining pharmacy, health, beauty and FMCG ranges. Frontshop Assistants are the face of the store floor: they keep shelves full and tidy, help customers find what they need, and handle sales transactions accurately and courteously.
Role details and duties
You will ensure full ranges of products are on the shelves at all times and neatly presented, maintain stock so it has not reached its sell-by date, restock merchandise when needed to maximise sales, and follow up on out-of-stock queries from customers in line with customer service standards. You will make sure delivered stock and stock pulled from the storeroom are stored and packed correctly, that merchandise displays, labels and pricing are correct at all times and price discrepancies are reported, and that the storeroom stays organised, neat and tidy. You will keep up to date with new product knowledge to assist customers effectively, assist with restocking and back shopping when required, and handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses. At the till you will transact purchases, receiving, verifying and processing payments such as cash, cards, vouchers and other tender types, exchange merchandise and accept returned goods when authorised, process loyalty cards including those of accelerated partners, place cash in the drop safe according to standard operating procedures, and ensure line voids and price changes are approved and signed by a Frontshop Leader or Retail Manager. You will ensure accurate cash flow at all times, facilitate rotation of stock and follow Dis-Chem stock control procedures, report low, out-of-stock, damaged and expired stock to management, assist with counting stock files and general stocktaking, and assist with loading and off-loading stock when needed, flattening boxes after unpacking and taking them to the designated area. You will establish a professional relationship with customers and provide friendly, helpful and courteous assistance, report compliments and complaints to management, work to the customer turnover per hour rate set by the company benchmark, assist with training new and current team members, ensure outgoing stock, items and scripts are scanned and paid for, keep daily takings inside the till area as required, and report bad or suspicious behaviour by staff or customers to management. Housekeeping must meet Dis-Chem standards, and you will follow Dis-Chem policies and standard operating procedures, health and safety rules, and the uniform and personal appearance policy.
