The Talent Experts is recruiting a Commercial and Contracts Manager, reference KT, for a growing, privately owned renewable energy developer. The role takes commercial ownership of major construction projects, with an immediate focus on a 100 MW utility-scale solar PV project in Gauteng.

About the company and the work

Reporting directly to the Project Director, the manager will take responsibility for day-to-day commercial management, ensuring contractual obligations are met, commercial risks are managed and commercial issues are resolved. The preferred location is Cape Town, with a hybrid arrangement of three days in the office. Role details and duties

• Manage the commercial aspects of EPC, O&M, Asset Management and Power Purchase Agreements.
• Assess, negotiate and manage contractor variations, claims, contractual amendments and changes.
• Prepare, review and respond to contractual notices and correspondence, ensuring compliance.
• Review and validate EPC and O&M contractor payment applications against agreed milestones and contract terms.
• Calculate, assess and enforce Delay Liquidated Damages and applicable performance-related remedies.
• Identify contractual and commercial risks, develop mitigation strategies and support resolution.
• Work closely with the Project Director on contractor negotiations, commercial decisions and claims.
• Maintain proper contract records, correspondence, document control and transmittal systems.
• Oversee project commercial and financial controls, including contingency certification and expenditure monitoring.
• Monitor contractual and statutory compliance, including permits and project conditions.

This is a permanent, intermediate-level position in Claremont, with salary undisclosed.

Requirements

• A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, Law or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in commercial and contract management on construction projects.
• Proven involvement in large-scale energy or renewable energy construction projects.
• Strong working knowledge and practical experience with FIDIC contracts.
• Hands-on experience administering and managing EPC construction contracts.
• Demonstrated experience assessing, preparing, defending and negotiating contractual claims and variations.
• Experience reviewing contractor payment applications and checking contractual compliance.
• Sound understanding of contractual notices, Delay Liquidated Damages and dispute processes.
• Experience dealing directly with EPC contractors, project directors, legal advisers and stakeholders.
• Ability to review contractual submissions, identify risks and make independent decisions.
• Experience on utility-scale solar PV projects is advantageous.
