Central Johannesburg TVET College is looking for an Assistant Director for Student Support Services at its Central Office. This is a management role for someone who can lead student support, counselling and student life across a college community.

Central Johannesburg TVET College provides technical and vocational education and training, and student support services help students succeed in their studies and in campus life. The unit covers counselling, career guidance, academic support, sport, recreation, arts and culture, student governance and leadership development, and support for gender and disability mainstreaming.

Role details and duties

The assistant director will oversee the administration of the student support services unit and manage student counselling, career guidance and academic support. The role includes overseeing and maintaining sport, recreation, arts and culture activities, facilitating student governance and student leadership development, managing the mainstreaming of gender and disability, and managing all human, financial and other resources of the unit.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree at NQF level 7 in Psychology, or a BA in Social Work with Psychology as a major, or an equivalent qualification.
• Three to five years of relevant experience in an educational institution.
• A valid driver’s licence, and computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of the post-school education and training sector and the CET Act, teaching and learning, the Skills Development Act, NSFAS and student financial aid, the Public Service Regulations, the Public Service Act, the Labour Relations Act and the ethical regulatory framework.
• Skills in administration, planning and organising, financial management, report writing, communication, interpersonal relations, problem solving, client orientation, analytical thinking, project management, team leadership and people management, with sound financial planning and management competencies; excellent report writing and processing skills are advantageous.
