The Government Printing Works is looking for a senior leader to head its business development work in Pretoria. This is a high-level role for someone who understands printing, production and public-sector supply, and who can turn strategy into reliable delivery for government customers across South Africa.
About the department and the work
The Government Printing Works produces secure and commercial printed material and supplies stationery and related services to government institutions. Its business development function connects production capacity with demand from national departments, state-owned entities and other public bodies, while protecting quality, security and value for money. The Chief Director will lead that commercial front end, making sure orders are planned well, delivered on time and supported by strong relationships.
Role details and duties
The successful candidate will lead, oversee and manage printing orders and production stock control functions. The role includes overseeing estimated production orders, directing the flow of orders from inception to delivery, and ensuring the strategic and effective management of raw material and production stock. The Chief Director will also oversee dispatching finished goods, manage printed stock and sales, introduce new products and services, and build and maintain existing relationships through regular engagement with internal and external contacts.
Other duties include identifying opportunities for distribution channels, services and campaigns that will result in sales, leading and overseeing the strategic management of Key Accounts, and administering Key Accounts in the National Departments and state-owned entity market. The role also covers managing Key Accounts in the Southern African Development Community region, ensuring effective management of safe storage and distribution or selling of face-value products, overseeing excellent customer care services, and overseeing the management of storage, control and sale of stationery items to government institutions.
The Chief Director will oversee monitoring and controlling of the receipt, storage and distribution of stationery stock, ensure safekeeping and proper inventory management, ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures and inventory management standards, and prepare and submit inventory, sales and stock performance reports. The role also involves addressing customer enquiries and resolving stationery supply-related issues, implementing measures to improve storage efficiency, stock control and customer service, and managing the Chief Directorate in relation to the implementation of policy priorities. The post holder will develop systems and procedures to enable delivery of services by the Directorates, take responsibility for delivery of strategic outcomes as outlined in the estimates of national expenditure, and ensure the management and development of human resources.
