About the company and the work

The Department of Employment and Labour promotes fair labour practices and helps workplaces comply with South African labour law. Inspectors based at labour centres do much of this work locally, visiting workplaces, checking compliance and helping employers and workers understand their rights and duties.

Role details and duties

This inspection post covers planning and carrying out substantive inspections to check compliance with labour legislation, including the BCEA, LRA, EEA, UIA, COIDA, OHS Act and UCA. The work also includes investigating reported cases, enforcing the law where necessary, running regular proactive inspections, planning advocacy campaigns, and compiling inspection reports and statistics.

The reference number is HR 4/4/1/100, and there are two posts.

Where to find and apply safely

These vacancies appear in DPSA Circular 39 of 2026, in the Employment and Labour section, post 39/17. Apply using the new Z83 form, with an updated comprehensive CV, and quote the correct post title and reference number. The application email shown in the advertisement is [email protected]. Use only the details in the official advertisement, and do not pay anyone for an application.

Practical tips

Complete every applicable section of the Z83 form, initial and sign it, and double-check the reference number before sending. Send the application well before the closing time for your chosen method, as walk-in and online closing times differ.

How the process works

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and shortlisted candidates may be asked to submit certified copies of their qualifications and related documents on or before the day of the interview. If you have not been contacted within eight weeks after the closing date, the department’s general note indicates that the application should be regarded as unsuccessful.

Important information

This page is informational only. It does not replace the official DPSA advertisement, and it does not guarantee an interview or appointment. Always check the closing date, reference number and application instructions in the original PDF before applying.
