Server room with network equipment

A Wireless Networking MS Engineer (L3) is wanted in Cape Town to run and secure enterprise wireless and local networks for managed services clients. The full advertised title is Wireless Networking MS Engineer (L3), and the role is placed by Recru-it, a specialist IT recruitment and talent sourcing company with offices in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. It is a permanent, intermediate-level position, and the advert states that the salary is undisclosed. The listing was posted on 29 October 2026 and expires in 20 days, so interested candidates should not leave it too late.

About the company and the work

Recru-it was established in August 2005 and specialises in the full spectrum of IT positions, with consultants working remotely across the country as well as from its Cape Town and Port Elizabeth offices. The engineer in this role works inside a managed services environment, which means the clients are other businesses that rely on the provider to keep their networks running, secure and properly documented. Much of the work is about staying ahead of problems: spotting faults before users notice them, keeping wireless coverage reliable, and making sure that every change to a network is planned, approved and recorded.

The day-to-day work revolves around clients and their service levels. The engineer leads in providing managed services to the company’s clients, proactively identifying and resolving technical incidents and problems, identifying the root cause of critical incidents, and implementing solutions so that clients meet their service level agreement conditions. High-complexity tickets form a regular part of the workload, and the role also covers onsite technical support and field engineering services for clients, as well as the chance to manage and implement projects within the technology domain.

Role details and duties

The core responsibility is providing test automation, technical support and network security for enterprise local area networks (LAN) and wireless local area networks (WLAN). That includes configuring, installing and testing client infrastructure so that it operates as it should, and designing and implementing customers’ wireless network infrastructure from the ground up.

Security runs through the whole role. The engineer ensures that the organisation’s LAN and WLAN networks are secure and operational, uses threat modelling techniques and threat intelligence to develop and maintain a network-based risk picture, analyses and detects risks and vulnerabilities associated with new technologies, processes and applications, and investigates risk and vulnerability issues to develop and implement solutions. The work also includes security audits and penetration testing activities to evaluate network security safeguards, comprehensive investigations and audits with the necessary forensic procedures, and reviewing client network policies and security documents to recommend changes or alterations.

Documentation and process discipline matter just as much as the technical fixes. Duties include providing system documentation and diagrams as well as maintenance documentation, implementing change management procedures that accommodate system architecture changes, identifying and documenting undocumented areas of a network to develop a network diagram, and developing and maintaining network standards and procedures. The engineer also takes part in and abides by change advisory board (CAB) processes when involved in changes, prepares monthly work status reports, and updates technology-specific documents.

The technical scope is broad and wireless-heavy. The engineer installs and troubleshoots Cisco wireless networks, wireless controllers, access points and network access equipment, deploys enterprise WLAN network systems, and works with Cisco, Aruba or Meraki device management. The role calls for knowledge of Layer-2 switching, VLANs and access lists; routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, IGRP and RIP (versions 1 and 2); the OSI model and the TCP/IP protocol suite; IP addressing, subnetting and routing concepts; SNMP on devices for network management; integration with wireless and ISE authentication methods; HSRP, DHCP, DNS, FTP, TFTP and MRTG; enterprise-level network design and implementation; and the 802.11n and 802.11a standards, together with working knowledge of Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, wi-fi authentication methods and their associated encryption methods, and WLC and ISE monthly reporting procedures and requirements. Monitoring tools are used to capture and analyse network traffic, maintain uptime and generate usage reports, and the role also involves evaluating the performance of Media Access Control (MAC) and higher layers of various types of wireless networks, knowledge of flex connect and its types and issues, basic knowledge of port channel configurations on the wired side, and experience performing RF spectrum analysis using various tool sets.

Where to find and apply safely

Use the Apply button on this page, which points to the original CareerJunction advert placed by Recru-it (Job 2646415, Ref PE011763). Apply only through that original advert, and never pay anyone for a job offer or an interview — a genuine recruiter will not ask you to pay to secure employment.

Practical tips

This is a certification-heavy advert, so make it easy for the recruiter to tick the boxes: list your CCNP Enterprise, CWAP, CWNA and CWDP credentials clearly at the top of your CV, and mention any CWNE, DevNet, Fortinet or SD-WAN certifications separately as advantageous extras. Give one or two concrete wireless examples — a WLAN deployment, a controller or access point rollout, or an RF survey — with the tools you used and the outcome, and be ready to talk through a complex incident you resolved under a service level agreement.

How the process works

Apply through the original CareerJunction advert using the Apply button on this page. The advert is placed by Recru-it, so shortlisting and interviews are handled by the recruiter and the client, and only shortlisted candidates are likely to be contacted.
