Virgin Active South Africa is looking for a Maintenance Technician for its Wembley Square club in Cape Town. This permanent role covers the full upkeep of the club — its plant, premises, gym equipment and pool — and it closes soon, with applications due before 6 November 2026.
About the company and the work
Virgin Active South Africa runs health clubs across the country. At Wembley Square, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for preventative maintenance and the state of repair of equipment and facilities, for action plans and projects delivered to the required standard, for maintenance plans and suppliers kept within budget, and for leading the maintenance team to the desired results.
Role details and duties
The work spans the whole club: maintaining and repairing plant, including following the preventative schedule for HVAC, logging faults, communicating faults and action plans to club and regional management, and repairing faults hands-on where possible; maintaining and repairing the premises, working with the landlord and contractors and keeping work to brand standards; maintaining and repairing gym equipment, including downtime reports, contractor preventative maintenance and equipment maintenance histories; inspecting the club daily through walkabouts, job books and checklists, and following up maintenance issues; pool maintenance, including checks, readings, dosing, backwashing, weir inspections and temperature displays; health and safety in the club, including working within the requirements of the OSH Act; brand-standard checks and action plans; managing projects to conclusion, including contractor sign-off, quality checks and snag lists; keeping maintenance within budget, controlling stock levels and using the e-procurement system with preferred suppliers; managing the maintenance team, including task planning, quality control, training, rosters, leave cycles and inductions; and being available for call-outs and telephonic assistance.
Requirements
The original advert does not publish a separate list of minimum qualifications. What it does describe is the background the work calls for: hands-on maintenance and repair experience across plant, premises and equipment; familiarity with health and safety requirements, including the OSH Act; the ability to manage a small team, suppliers, stock and a budget; and availability for call-outs. Applicants should confirm any qualification or experience expectations on the original advert before applying, and should show relevant maintenance experience clearly in their application.
Where to find and apply safely
