Eskom is looking for two Technician Computers to join its team at Kendal Power Station in Mpumalanga. This is a permanent opportunity for a technically minded person who enjoys keeping complex plant systems running reliably and who is comfortable working with computer-based electrical equipment.

About Eskom and the work

Eskom generates, transmits and distributes most of South Africa’s electricity, and its power stations depend on skilled maintenance teams to keep plant available and safe. At Kendal, the focus of this role is the reliability and availability of plant systems, with computer systems forming an important part of the electrical work.

This is hands-on, plant-based work rather than a general office role. The successful candidates will work within an established maintenance team, help keep allocated systems optimised, and support the people around them as systems are maintained, modified and improved.

Role details and duties

The role covers two Technician Computers posts. The work includes:

• Maintaining and optimising the system allocated to the technician.
• Checking that the correct components, spares and services are procured.
• Helping with modifications that improve plant reliability.
• Advising and assisting with staff development.
• Carrying out project and contract supervision activities.
• Complying with the permit-to-work system.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or National N Diploma in a technical field.
• P1 and P2 experiential training.
• Related experience in maintenance.
• Knowledge of national and international engineering codes and standards, plant fundamental policies, safety, HV/LV regulations and quality control.
• Computer literacy, analytical ability, problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Behavioural strengths including integrity, honesty, trustworthiness and professionalism, and a team approach that includes motivating, coaching, mentoring and developing others.
