Role details and duties
The work covers Windows and Linux server environments, virtualisation, storage, compute and core infrastructure services. Day-to-day duties include monitoring infrastructure performance, availability, capacity and lifecycle management, and keeping operational standards and best practice in place. On the network and security side, the role includes managing firewalls, switches, internet connectivity and remote access services, supporting patching, vulnerability remediation and security hardening, and assisting with audit and compliance activities.
Database work includes administering Microsoft SQL Server and other supported database platforms, monitoring availability, performance, capacity and security, and handling maintenance, optimisation, patching and upgrades. The role also covers backup, recovery, replication and high-availability configurations, and support for database migrations, upgrades and cloud transition activities.
For the Azure cloud migration, duties include assessing infrastructure, applications and databases for migration readiness, developing migration strategies, dependency maps and plans, migrating servers, applications, storage and databases to Azure, and configuring Azure networking, identity, security, monitoring, backup and governance controls. Migration testing, validation, cutover and post-migration support are also part of the role, along with incident, problem and change management through approved ITSM processes, root cause analysis for major incidents, documentation, asset and vendor management.

Requirements
- Grade 12
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
