Role details and duties
You will prepare site plans, setting-out drawings, layouts and detailed drawings for concrete, structural steel, timber and brickwork structures, producing technical drawings in line with applicable SANS standards and project specifications. You will assist with the detailing of reinforced concrete, structural steel and other structural elements, check all drawings for accuracy and completeness before submitting them for final review, and assist with quantity measurements and the preparation of tender documentation. You will issue approved construction drawings and schedules in line with established procedures, assist with the review of structural steel fabrication drawings and conduct site or fabrication yard inspections, and monitor concrete works while maintaining concrete test cube and soil compaction records where applicable. You will also keep accurate drawing registers, schedules, project records and archives, adhere to ISO 9001 quality management requirements, liaise with engineers, architects, contractors and other built-environment professionals, and support and mentor junior draughting staff when delegated. The role includes participation in the company’s mentorship programme, with the aim of obtaining professional registration.
Requirements
Applicants need a National Diploma in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification, plus a minimum of 5 years of structural draughting experience in concrete and structural steel. Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant draughting software is required, along with knowledge of applicable SANS standards and structural detailing principles. You should have experience producing accurate drawings within project deadlines, the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a project team, and strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and a positive, professional attitude.
