Senior Refrigeration and Commissioning Technician Jobs in Primrose

A leading manufacturing company is looking for a Senior Refrigeration and Commissioning Technician for commercial and industrial refrigeration work. This permanent intermediate role, based in Primrose, covers commissioning, servicing, fault finding and quality work on a wide range of refrigeration systems.

Role details and duties

Commissioning and servicing: Assist contractors with commissioning and servicing commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, including CO2 (R744) trans-critical systems, refrigeration racks, cold rooms, freezer rooms, blast freezers, chillers and process cooling equipment.

Maintenance and breakdowns: Carry out preventative maintenance to service schedules, attend emergency breakdowns and reactive service calls, and diagnose and repair refrigeration, mechanical and electrical faults.

Testing and handover: Replace compressors, evaporators, condensers, pressure vessels, valves and electronic expansion valves, carry out nitrogen pressure testing, leak detection, evacuation and refrigerant charging, and complete factory and site acceptance tests, commissioning and customer handover work.

Controls and electrical work: Configure refrigeration control systems, operating parameters and control strategies, including electronic expansion valves, gas cooler controls and related systems; read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and P&IDs; test circuits, motors, contactors, overloads, relays and safety devices; and configure and commission controllers including Carel, Danfoss, Dixell, Eliwell and similar brands.

Quality, defects and reporting: Investigate manufacturing defects and warranty-related job cards, identify refrigerant leaks, piping defects, electrical defects and workmanship issues, carry out root-cause analysis, report defects and recurring failures, suggest design improvements, follow ISO 9001 quality requirements, inspect piping, brazing, insulation, wiring and installations, complete job cards and commissioning, service, warranty and quality reports accurately, monitor systems through remote platforms, support commercial HVAC work where required, and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Qualified Refrigeration Mechanic (Red Seal Trade Test).
• Valid SAQCC Gas Registration and a valid code B driver’s licence.
• Minimum 5-10 years of experience in commercial and industrial refrigeration.
• Proven experience commissioning commercial refrigeration systems.
• Practical experience with CO2 (R744) refrigeration systems will be advantageous.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Experience commissioning refrigeration controllers and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
• Ability to read refrigeration piping diagrams, P&IDs and electrical drawings.
• Intermediate computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
