Abacus Life Limited is looking for a Senior Internal Auditor with a strong data analytics focus, based in Woodmead. The role moves internal audit beyond sample-based, retrospective testing and toward continuous, data-led assurance across the organisation.

About the company and the work

Abacus is an authorised financial services provider and a proud member of the Pepkor Group. It comprises two separate insurance companies: Abacus Insurance, which provides non-life insurance products, and Abacus Life, which provides life insurance products. In this role, you will deliver complex, high-risk internal audits, with a particular focus on using data to improve coverage, insight, and follow-up.

Role details and duties

• Own the internal audit data analytics strategy, roadmap, and operating model.
• Build, curate, and govern a reusable library of audit analytics routines and scripts by risk and process.
• Work with IT and Data Engineering to establish and maintain the audit data environment.
• Act as the analytics champion for the function and help set annual analytics coverage targets.
• Mentor, coach, and upskill internal auditors in analytics techniques and tools.
• Use data to profile risk when contributing to the risk-based annual audit plan.
• Design analytics-led audit approaches during planning, rather than adding analytics afterwards.
• Lead and execute audit assignments end to end, including integrated audits.
• Investigate and corroborate exceptions from analytic reviews with substantive audit evidence.
• Prepare complete, cross-referenced audit working papers and document root causes for findings.
• Design, build, deploy, and maintain continuous auditing and continuous monitoring routines.
• Automate repetitive audit and reporting procedures and build dashboards for management and the Audit Committee.
• Draft clear, well-evidenced audit reports, agree findings and remediation actions, and track management actions.
• Support forensic, special investigation, and ad hoc management requests where analytic capability is needed.

Requirements

• Matric, Grade 12, or National Senior Certificate.
• A completed bachelor’s degree, or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification, in Internal Auditing, Accounting, or a related field as stated in the advert.
• A recognised professional designation such as CIA or CISA, or equivalent, will be beneficial.
• Demonstrable formal training in data analytics, through a completed qualification or a certificate.
• Experience using computer-assisted audit techniques (CAATs).
• Demonstrable experience designing and executing data analytics within an audit, risk, forensic, or compliance environment.
• Experience designing and operating continuous auditing or continuous monitoring routines in production.
