Where to find / apply safely

Apply only through the official SAPS e-Recruitment portal using the Apply button on this page, which leads to the original vacancy detail page for STUDENT – TRA26/27. Do not pay any fee to anyone for taking part in SAPS recruitment, and be wary of bogus websites advertising SAPS traineeships. The portal states that applicants are limited to one application, because the system will only accept one application from each applicant.

Practical tips

  • Check your age against the closing date first: you must be between 18 and 35 on 13 November 2026.
  • Have clear proof of South African citizenship and your Grade 12 certificate or equivalent ready before you start.
  • List English plus one other official language you can use confidently.
  • Be honest about health conditions, criminal history and previous dismissals, because the source warns that undisclosed health conditions may lead to withdrawal from training.
  • Do not try to submit more than one application, and complete the online form carefully in one careful pass.
  • Apply well before 11:59 PM on 13 November 2026, so a slow connection or a missing document does not cost you the opportunity.

How the process works

On the SAPS portal, you register an account, enter your profile details, log in, go to SAPS Vacancies, find this vacancy and complete the multi-step application process. After applying, candidates face fitness, psychometric and integrity testing, medical evaluation and interviews during recruitment, selection and enlistment. The SAPS will verify qualifications, driver’s licence where applicable, citizenship and residential address. A vetting process follows, including security screening, reference checking, social media presence checks and fingerprint verification to establish whether any illicit activity has been recorded or is pending. Correspondence will be conducted with successful applicants only, and if you have not been contacted within three months after the closing date, you should accept that your application was unsuccessful. Being put through the selection processes is not a guarantee of appointment, and the Service is under no obligation to appoint any applicant.
