A permanent Risk Specialist opportunity is now open in Johannesburg, Gauteng, advertised through Status Staffing. The role sits within a wealth management environment and suits an experienced risk professional who enjoys looking after a portfolio of clients, giving sound risk advice and keeping every policy, record and insurer relationship in good order. The position starts as soon as possible and runs Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 17:00.
About the company and the work
Status Staffing is a Western Cape based boutique staffing firm that matches candidates with employers across a broad range of sectors. In this case it is recruiting for a client team based in Gauteng that works in wealth management. The Risk Specialist joins that team to take care of the risk side of clients’ financial lives, covering life, disability, severe illness and income protection products. It is a client-facing role that blends advice, servicing, administration and compliance, and it calls for someone who can work independently while also supporting Wealth Advisors and Wealth Specialists.
Role details and duties
The successful candidate will take ownership of an allocated portfolio of risk clients and act as the primary point of contact for all risk-related queries. Day-to-day work includes ongoing policy servicing such as reviews, amendments and claims support, making sure every client is serviced in line with FAIS requirements.
On the advice side, the role involves providing appropriate risk advice, carrying out needs analyses, recommending suitable products, helping Wealth Advisors and Wealth Specialists with risk planning for their clients, and spotting gaps in cover so clients are properly protected. The specialist also helps bring risk books from merger partners on board, reviews existing policies for relevance, competitiveness and compliance, and builds relationships with clients from acquired books.
Insurer and stakeholder work forms another part of the job: liaising with life insurers about underwriting, policy servicing and claims, maintaining strong relationships with key product providers, and keeping accreditation requirements up to date. Compliance and administration duties include keeping accurate, up-to-date client records on Xplan or a similar CRM system, making sure all advice and servicing meets FAIS and internal compliance standards, and assisting with audit requirements and documentation when needed. The role also supports growth by identifying opportunities to expand the risk book within the existing client base and helping Wealth Advisors cross-sell risk solutions.
Requirements
- 3 to 7 or more years of experience in risk insurance or financial services.
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- A relevant financial qualification, for example a CFP or an NQF-aligned qualification.
- FAIS compliant for providing risk advice.
- Product accreditation with major life insurers, or the willingness and ability to obtain it.
- Proven experience in advising on and servicing life risk products.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, computer literate and technologically savvy.
- Experience working with a CRM system, for example XPlan.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Fluent in verbal and written English and Afrikaans.
- Strong technical knowledge of risk products and structuring.
- Excellent client relationship management and communication skills.
- High attention to detail with strong administrative accuracy.
- Able to work independently and within a team.
- Strong compliance awareness and a commitment to ethical standards.
Where to find and apply safely
This vacancy is advertised on Careers24 by Status Staffing, reference PC002085/LS, and applications are made through the advertiser’s website, statusstaffing.com. Use the Apply button on this page to reach the original advert, and check that the reference and employer match before you submit anything. A recent professional profile photo is requested with the application. Never pay anyone to apply for a job, and be cautious of messages that ask for fees, banking details or personal documents outside the official application route. The closing date given in the advert is 27 November 2026.
Practical tips
Have a recent professional profile photo ready, since the advert specifically asks for one. Gather proof of your FAIS compliance and any product accreditations with major life insurers, and be ready to talk through examples of portfolios you have serviced, needs analyses you have completed, and how you have handled reviews, amendments and claims. If you have used XPlan or another CRM system, be specific about how you kept records accurate and audit-ready. Because the role involves merger book integration, any experience onboarding clients from an acquired book is worth highlighting. Finally, prepare to show how you work in both English and Afrikaans, as fluency in both languages is required.
How the process works
Applications go through the original Careers24 advert to Status Staffing. The employer notes that if you do not hear back within 10 working days, you should consider your application unsuccessful. The role is permanent, full-time, Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00, with a start date as soon as possible and a market-related salary.
