Role details and duties

• Lead the electrical design of energy evacuation systems from 11kV to 132kV, including substations, switchgear, protection and control schemes, and metering.
• Develop and review overhead line designs, including conductor and structure selection, clearances and earthing.
• Prepare and review single-line diagrams, layouts, protection coordination studies, earthing studies and equipment specifications.
• Liaise with utilities, network operators and grid authorities on connection requirements, technical approvals and grid code compliance.
• Take the work from concept design through to construction, commissioning and handover.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience in electrical engineering.
• BEng/BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• ECSA registration or eligibility for professional registration.
• Direct, hands-on experience with 11kV to 132kV substations and overhead lines is essential.
• Demonstrable knowledge of grid connection requirements, renewable energy evacuation systems and South African grid codes.
• Sound technical knowledge of protection, earthing, switching and power systems.
• Experience with Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, EPCM or consulting engineering environments will be advantageous.
• Experience with systems above 132kV and power system analysis software will be beneficial.
