A senior programme leadership opportunity has opened in Midrand for a professional who can guide large artificial intelligence and big data programmes from first plan to finished delivery. A1L Digital is recruiting a Programme Manager (AI & Big Data) for a client in the telecommunications sector, on a six-month fixed-term, full-time contract. The reference for this vacancy is JHB001021-RM-2.
If you have spent years steering complex technology programmes and you enjoy turning ambitious data ideas into working, measurable results, this role puts you at the centre of enterprise-wide change.
About the company and the work
A1L Digital is a consulting business with a team of between 51 and 250 people, and it regularly places specialists with clients across South Africa. In this case, the successful candidate will support a telecommunications client that is investing in artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics and big data.
The work is about much more than keeping a project on schedule. It is about making sure that data and AI initiatives genuinely serve the business: they must fit the wider strategy, show clear value, and be delivered in a secure and responsible way, on time and within budget.
Role details and duties
As Programme Manager, you will take charge of the planning, governance, execution and delivery of enterprise-wide AI and data transformation programmes. Your days will involve coordinating several workstreams at once, keeping scope, budget and timelines under control, and making sure every initiative moves forward with purpose.
You will work closely with executive leadership, data scientists, data engineers, solution architects, cloud engineers, business stakeholders and outside vendors. Together, you will drive large-scale digital transformation, solve delivery problems as they arise, and keep senior decision-makers informed about progress, risks and results.
The contract runs for six months, and the role is based in Midrand on a full-time basis.
Requirements
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, Business Information Systems, or a closely related field. A postgraduate qualification at Honours or Master’s level will be an advantage, as will an Agile certification such as SAFe, Scrum Master or PMI-ACP.
A programme management certification is required, for example PgMP, MSP, PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, AgilePM, or an equivalent credential.
On experience, the advert calls for at least ten years managing large technology programmes, including at least five years leading AI, machine learning, big data or advanced analytics programmes. Candidates should also show proven delivery of enterprise digital transformation work, experience with programmes worth more than R50 million, and experience leading delivery teams spread across different locations.
Strong engagement with executives and board-level stakeholders is essential, and you should be comfortable working in Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery environments.
Where to find and apply safely
This vacancy is listed on PNet, and the Apply button on this page takes you directly to the original PNet advert. Apply only through that original listing, and read the full advert there before you submit anything.
Check that the reference number, company name and location on the original page match what you see here. A genuine recruiter will never ask you to pay a fee to apply, to be shortlisted, or to secure an interview.
Practical tips
Before you apply, update your CV so that it clearly shows the size and value of the programmes you have led, the AI and data work you have delivered, and the results those programmes achieved. Mention your programme management certification by name, and give examples of working with executive stakeholders and distributed teams.
Because this is a six-month contract, think about what you can realistically deliver in that window, and be ready to talk about how you would set up governance, reporting and delivery rhythms in your first few weeks.
How the process works
When you apply through the original PNet listing, your application goes to the recruiter, A1L Digital, for review against the requirements above. Shortlisted candidates can expect further screening and interviews with the recruiter and possibly the client, where your programme experience, certifications and approach to delivery will be discussed in more detail.
Keep an eye on your email and phone after applying, and respond promptly if the recruiter makes contact. If you are not shortlisted, keep building your portfolio of AI and data delivery work for the next opportunity.
