QE Services is recruiting a Platform Engineer for a client based in Cape Town, in the IT and finance space. The permanent, intermediate-level role focuses on building reliable internal platforms that help engineering teams deliver software faster and more safely.

The successful candidate will design, build and maintain scalable, secure internal developer platforms, working closely with software engineers and other technical teams. Role details and duties

• Design, build and maintain scalable, secure and reliable internal developer platforms.
• Develop self-service platform capabilities, APIs, automation and tools that simplify development and deployment.
• Build reusable platform components that help engineering teams work more efficiently and independently.
• Manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools and established best practice.
• Manage and optimise container platforms and Kubernetes environments.
• Implement GitOps workflows and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing and delivery.
• Set up monitoring, logging, metrics and distributed tracing to improve visibility and reliability.
• Troubleshoot complex platform, infrastructure and application issues to keep systems available.
• Evaluate new technologies, identify automation opportunities and keep improving platform capability.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience as a Software Engineer, including work with languages such as Java and JavaScript.
• At least 3 years of experience in Platform Engineering, building self-service platforms and tools for engineering teams.
• At least 4 years of experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• At least 4 years of experience with containerisation technologies and container platforms.
• Strong experience building and maintaining production-grade platforms, platform APIs and automation.
• Expert knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CDK, Pulumi or Crossplane.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, container orchestration and cloud-native technologies.
• Experience with Kubernetes GitOps tools such as Argo CD, Flux, Helm or Kustomize.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and GitLab CI/CD.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, service architectures and cloud-native systems.
• Relevant Kubernetes or public cloud certifications, such as CKA, AWS, Azure or GCP certifications, are advantageous.
