About Eskom and the work

Eskom supplies most of South Africa’s electricity, and protecting its people, assets and operations is a serious responsibility. This team looks into incidents and irregularities across Eskom’s business units, then reports findings so the business can act and learn from what happened.

This is not a general guarding post. It is an investigations role for people who can work carefully with facts, write clearly, and handle sensitive matters professionally and discreetly.

Role details and duties

The six officers will:

  • Conduct baseline investigations into incidents, irregularities and criminal activities.
  • Apply sound investigative practices throughout each case.
  • Provide post-investigative support to the business.
  • Provide an advisory and consultative service on security investigations.
  • Investigate irregularities, criminal activities, security incidents and breaches at business-unit level, and report on the results.

The job category is Security/Security Guard, and remuneration is described by Eskom as market related.

Requirements

Only the requirements stated in the original Eskom listing are listed here:

  • A National Diploma in Security Risk Management, Policing or Forensic Investigations at NQF6 with 240 credits.
  • Registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) at Grade A.
  • Three years of experience in a security environment and in crime investigations.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, Eskom security policies, systems, directives and standards, and the national key point training programme.
  • PSIRA skills programmes for first-line security supervision and for private investigation.
  • Strong report writing, communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to analyse and interpret data, and the ability to work under pressure, alone or as part of a team.
  • Behavioural strengths including integrity, honesty, trustworthiness and professionalism.
