Huntswood is recruiting an Occupational Health and Safety Officer for a six-month fixed-term contract in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The salary is market related, and applications close on 4 November 2026, so this is a short window and interested candidates should not delay.
About the company and the work
Huntswood is a business process and customer operations organisation with sites across South Africa. This role sits at the heart of its day-to-day safety operation: the successful candidate will help keep five operational sites safe, healthy and legally compliant, four of them in Durban and one in Cape Town. Working closely with operational leaders and facilities teams, the officer will drive a proactive approach to safety rather than simply reacting when something goes wrong. The work covers the full safety cycle, from routine inspections and risk assessments through to incident investigation, contractor oversight, emergency readiness and monthly reporting, all aimed at protecting employees, contractors, visitors and company assets.

- Tracking and reporting on safety performance indicators and compliance measures.
- Investigating workplace incidents, accidents, injuries and near misses, and preparing detailed reports on root causes and corrective actions.
- Making sure incidents are reported and escalated within prescribed timelines, and supporting management in preventing recurrence.

- Facilitating toolbox talks, safety workshops and awareness campaigns, and promoting a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.
- Providing practical guidance and support to managers and employees on safety-related matters.

Where to find and apply safely
Apply only through the original Careers24 listing, using the Apply button on this page, which links directly to the Huntswood vacancy. Be wary of anyone asking for payment in exchange for a job, and never share banking details or passwords during an application. If a message about this vacancy does not come from the official listing or the employer, treat it with caution and check the original advert first.
Practical tips
Make your multi-site experience easy to see: name the number of sites you have covered, the industries involved and the inspection and audit routines you ran. Give concrete examples of incidents you investigated, the root causes you found and the corrective actions that followed. If you hold SAMTRAC, First Aid or Fire Warden certification, list it prominently, and mention any experience in contact centre or multi-site operational environments, since the advert flags these as desirable.
How the process works
Applications are submitted through the Careers24 listing for this vacancy. At the time it was seen, 24 people had applied and 234 people had viewed the advert. Shortlisted candidates can expect the employer to assess their qualifications, multi-site safety experience and knowledge of health and safety legislation before any appointment is made. Because the contract runs for six months, be ready to discuss your availability and your ability to cover sites in both Durban and Cape Town.
