An agriculture cooperative and retail supply services company in Mount Edgecombe, Durban, is looking for a creative and detail-oriented Marketing & Communications Assistant. Recruited through Black Tie Recruit, this full-time, office-based role supports the organisation’s marketing output across print, digital and social platforms, and it reports to the General Manager. If you enjoy turning ideas into neat, on-brand material and meeting regular publishing deadlines, this is a practical opportunity to grow your marketing and design career.
About the company and the work
The employer behind this vacancy is an agriculture cooperative and retail supply services company whose brand is Coastals. The role sits in Mount Edgecombe in the Durban northern suburbs, and the successful candidate works under supervision to co-ordinate, produce and distribute a range of marketing and communications materials that stay true to the company’s brand identity. The work is broad rather than technically advanced: it suits a self-starter who is confident with common design tools, takes pride in consistent, on-brand output, and is happy to help wherever the marketing function needs support. Certain responsibilities are carried out in collaboration with the Trading Manager and the Financial Manager, depending on the nature of the work.
Role details and duties
The confirmed facts are: the employer is Black Tie Recruit, recruiting for an agriculture cooperative and retail supply services company; the role is Marketing & Communications Assistant; it is based in Mount Edgecombe, Durban; it is a permanent, full-time, office-based position; and the salary is R18,000 to R25,000 per month. Applications close on 28 December 2026.
The duties include:
- Co-ordinating the monthly newsletter: collecting editorial content from internal contributors, assembling, laying out and writing minor items, designing and producing it in Adobe InDesign or Canva within agreed brand parameters, applying consistent typography, colour and layout in line with the Coastals brand, uploading and publishing it on the company’s website each month, and co-ordinating distribution to branches before the beginning of the month.
- Managing the company Facebook account under supervision, publishing posts as directed, responding to queries timeously, and creating accompanying graphics and captions consistent with the company’s tone and brand.
- Designing promotional advertisements for the company’s WhatsApp channel, including specials and announcements, and producing product and price banners adapted from the monthly specials leaflet, making sure all promotional material is accurate, on-brand and approved before distribution.
- Desktop publishing and internal communications, such as long-service certificates and staff notices, and assisting with general desktop publishing tasks, for example the Annual Report.
- Uploading content to the company website, including the monthly newsletter and other approved communications, and performing basic website content updates as directed. This is a content management role, not web development.
- Producing short, simple video clips for social or internal use, for example with Canva or similar tools, at entry level: editing, text overlays and brand-aligned output rather than advanced production.
- General marketing assistance, including sourcing and co-ordinating corporate gifts, branded merchandise and promotional items, assisting with the planning and logistics of staff functions, social events and similar internal activities, providing general administrative support to the marketing function, and distributing banners and similar material to branches.
Occasional assistance with after-hours events or staff functions may be required.

Practical tips
Put your portfolio first: the advert states that submission of a portfolio or work samples is a requirement for the application to be considered, so attach your best newsletter layouts, social graphics and promotional banners, and make sure they show consistent branding rather than one-off designs. If you cannot attach your portfolio when applying, the advert says the recruiter will respond to your application to request it, so keep your samples ready to send quickly. In your CV, highlight the two years of practical marketing, design or communications experience, your InDesign or Canva skills, and any business Facebook account you have managed, with examples of posts and results where you can share them.
How the process works
Applications are submitted through the Careers24 listing for this vacancy, where candidates are invited to submit a concise CV along with a portfolio or examples of previous work. The advert notes that portfolio or work samples are required for the application to be considered, and that applicants who cannot attach them when applying will be contacted for them. Shortlisted candidates can expect the usual next steps of screening and interviews; always confirm any invitation through the original advert and the recruiter’s official channels.
