Software developer working on code on a laptop

An established professional services company in Kimberley is looking for a Junior AI-Assisted Software Developer to help build and maintain its in-house software using modern AI coding tools. Advertised by Workersweb, this is a permanent role with a market-related salary, and applications close on 28 December 2026.

About the company and the work

Workersweb is a recruitment agency advertising this role on behalf of an established professional services employer in Kimberley. The company develops and maintains its own in-house software, which is used in everyday business operations, and it uses modern AI coding tools as part of that work. The position is aimed at a recent graduate who wants to grow as a developer while contributing to practical software that the business actually uses.

The heart of the role is understanding development requirements, using AI tools effectively, reviewing generated code, testing solutions and making sure every change is accurate, reliable and complete. You will gradually build a thorough understanding of the existing codebase and develop the technical judgement to know when AI output is good and when it needs fixing.

Role details and duties

The role covers four areas:

Understand the problem

  • Read and interpret detailed development tickets and identify the underlying problem to be solved.
  • Use screenshots and visual references to understand the current and expected user experience.
  • Ask focused questions when requirements are unclear or contradictory.

Build with AI responsibly

  • Use Codex, Cursor and similar tools to implement changes, refining instructions when initial solutions fall short.
  • Read and understand AI-generated code before accepting or merging it.
  • Identify unnecessary, risky or unrelated code changes and investigate their causes.

Test and verify results

  • Run applications locally and test functional and visual changes against the requirements.
  • Diagnose issues using browser developer tools, console output and terminal errors.
  • Ensure new changes do not break existing functionality.
  • Attach clear screenshots to development tickets as evidence of completion.

Document and collaborate

  • Update development tickets accurately, documenting changes and testing performed.
  • Use Git and GitHub correctly for branches, commits and pull requests.
  • Build knowledge of the codebase, development standards and internal processes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company and client information.

The developer will assist with the development and maintenance of in-house applications built with Next.js, and will be accountable for the quality of the work delivered.

Requirements

Only the requirements stated in the original advert are listed here:

  • A completed degree or diploma (NQF Level 6 or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics, Software Engineering or a related field.
  • Software Development: 1 to 2 years.
  • JavaScript or TypeScript: 2 to 3 years.
  • Front-end, back-end, API and database concepts: 2 to 3 years.
  • A basic understanding of software development and the ability to read program logic.
  • Basic knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, or a strong foundation in another programming language.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • An understanding of Git and GitHub, including branches, commits and code changes.
  • A basic understanding of front-end, back-end, API and database concepts.
  • The ability to interpret error messages, console logs and code changes, together with basic debugging skills.

No previous work experience is required, and personal, academic or open-source projects will be advantageous. The advert is explicit about what this role is not: it is not a senior developer position, you will not be expected to design and code large, complex systems entirely from scratch, and it is not simply a prompt operator position — AI-generated output must be understood, reviewed and tested before it is accepted.

Where to find and apply safely

Apply only through the original Careers24 advert linked from this page, using the Apply button. The advert reference is WO 000170. Do not pay anyone for a job application, and be cautious of anyone who contacts you outside the official application channel asking for fees or personal banking details.

Practical tips

Because this role is about judgement as much as coding, your application should show that you read and test code rather than blindly accepting it. Link to personal, academic or open-source projects, and be ready to talk through a piece of code you wrote or reviewed: what it does, what could go wrong with it, and how you tested it. A small portfolio showing Next.js, JavaScript or TypeScript work and clean Git history will speak louder than a long list of tools.

How the process works

Applications are submitted through the original Careers24 advert. The recruiter and the employer then review applications and contact shortlisted candidates. The advert does not state interview stages or a start date, so confirm those details if you are shortlisted. Applications close on 28 December 2026.

Important information

Please note: this page is informational only and is not the employer. One detail in the original advert needs checking: it states that no previous work experience is required, while also listing 1 to 3 years across software development, JavaScript or TypeScript, and front-end, back-end, API and database concepts. Confirm how experience is assessed in the original advert or with the recruiter before applying. Always verify the full requirements, salary and closing date in the original advert, as details can change.
