iOCO Infrastructure Services is looking for an Intermediate Systems Engineer in Johannesburg who thrives on troubleshooting complex IT challenges, implementing innovative solutions and keeping customer environments running seamlessly. This permanent role suits a hands-on engineer with experience across HPE Aruba networking, Fortinet security and Microsoft technologies. Applications close on 28 December 2026, so interested candidates should apply promptly.
About the company and the work
iOCO Infrastructure Services (iOCO IS) delivers outstanding infrastructure services to its customers, describing itself as a community of skilled professionals who challenge, disrupt and innovate. iOCO is an equal opportunity employer with its own employment equity objectives. In this role you will work within the infrastructure services team, supporting customers’ environments, implementing solutions and working with vendors to deliver reliable, secure IT environments. The advert also refers to Aptronics, iOCO’s infrastructure brand, whose quality expectations apply to the documentation you produce and whose events you may represent the company at.
Role details and duties
The role centres on problem and incident resolution: resolving customer problem and incident calls allocated within your specific area of expertise, as well as calls within your area of general knowledge and experience. You will provide second-level support for technical services engineers and assist in break and fix situations where escalation has been invoked. Professional interactions with vendors are part of the job, and you will act as a mentor for junior engineers, providing input into their career and certification roadmaps. You will also participate in implementing solutions, carrying out implementation activities that result in solutions meeting customer requirements, and you will support the pre-sales side of the business, attending customer meetings both before and after sales. On the certification side, you will keep company-defined vendor and vendor-related certifications current through self-study and related learning, maintain in-depth knowledge of strategic vendor products and their direction, and represent Aptronics at vendor or other events and seminars. All documentation you produce must meet Aptronics quality expectations.
Requirements
Applicants need 4 or more years of IT experience, with at least the last 2 years in a technical role delivering the kinds of services described above. Hands-on HPE Aruba networking experience is required, covering deployment and support of Aruba switching, wireless and gateway products. Fortinet experience is also required, covering hands-on configuration and support of FortiGate firewalls, including security policies. Microsoft experience is required too, covering hands-on administration and support of Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Active Directory. On certifications, the advert lists as essential: HPE Aruba Networking certification (ACSA Switching Associate and/or ACMA Mobility Associate) as a minimum, Fortinet certification at NSE4 (Network Security Professional) or higher, and Microsoft certification as Microsoft 365 Administrator (MS-102) and/or Azure Administrator Associate. The role also calls for adaptability, analytical thinking, communication, customer service, decision making, initiative, stress management, teamwork, and value and ethics.
Where to find and apply safely
This vacancy is advertised on Careers24 by iOCO, and the Apply button on this page links directly to that original advert. Apply only through the original listing, and never pay anyone who promises you this job or asks for a fee to secure an interview. Genuine recruiters do not charge job seekers for applications.
Practical tips
Lead with your hands-on evidence: describe Aruba switching and wireless deployments you have supported, FortiGate firewall configurations and security policies you have managed, and Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments you have administered. List your certifications clearly — ACSA or ACMA, NSE4 or higher, and MS-102 or Azure Administrator Associate — and show your incident-resolution and second-level support experience, including break and fix escalations you have handled. Mention any mentoring of junior engineers and pre-sales or customer-meeting experience, since both are part of this role.
