Role details / duties

• Plan and teach daily, creative and age-appropriate lessons.
• Use play, storytelling, music, art, reading, writing, life skills and physical activities to support learning.
• Promote learners’ confidence, self-esteem, independence and school readiness.
• Monitor individual learners’ development, abilities and challenges and report concerns when necessary.
• Complete learner assessments and quarterly evaluations.
• Keep a safe, clean and organised classroom, including during outdoor activities.
• Assist learners with toileting, feeding, hygiene and other personal-care needs.
• Work with Classroom Leaders, Teacher Assistants and volunteers, keep attendance and activity records, and communicate positively with parents, guardians and colleagues.
• Attend staff meetings, training and workshops and follow all school policies and professional standards.

Requirements

• Minimum Level 4 ECD Certificate; a Diploma or BEd in ECD is advantageous.
• At least 2 years’ relevant teaching or Teacher Assistant experience.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Afrikaans or isiXhosa; a third language is advantageous.
• Good communication, interpersonal, organisational and planning skills.
• Strong child-development and ECD knowledge and basic computer skills.
• Creative, patient, professional and able to work well in a team.
