A professionally registered Electrical Engineer or Engineering Technologist is needed to join a Cape Town team working on building services and infrastructure projects. This permanent role, placed by MSP Staffing, suits an experienced consulting professional who can run electrical projects independently from inception through to completion, delivering sound technical solutions for public and private sector clients. Applications close on December 27, 2026.
About the company and the work
MSP Staffing is a specialist recruitment agency focused on engineering, construction and related sectors, connecting skilled professionals with opportunities locally and abroad. In this role you would join its client’s Cape Town team, working on buildings and infrastructure projects where electrical design quality directly affects safety, reliability and the daily experience of the people who use those buildings.
The work spans the full project life cycle. Rather than handing over at one stage, you would stay involved from early concept design through detailed design, tender and construction, seeing your designs become working installations.
Role details and duties
As Electrical Engineer / Technologist, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing electrical building services and infrastructure installations in line with applicable standards.
- Managing projects across all stages, from inception and concept design through detailed design, tender and construction.
- Preparing electrical calculations, technical reports, specifications, bills of quantities and tender documentation.
- Reviewing contractor submissions, carrying out site inspections and attending technical and construction meetings.
- Undertaking feasibility assessments and electrical power system studies where required.
- Designing and coordinating rooftop solar PV and battery storage installations where applicable.
- Coordinating with architects, multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, municipalities and utilities.
- Managing project scope, quality, programme, risks, budgets and client expectations.
- Representing projects in client meetings and mentoring candidate engineers, technologists and graduates.
Requirements
Only the requirements stated in the advert are listed here:
- A BEng, BSc (Eng) or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng or PrTech Eng — essential.
- 7 to 10 years of post-qualification experience, including 3 to 5 years after professional registration.
- Consulting engineering experience in building services and infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of MV/LV design, lighting, small power, earthing, standby generation and UPS.
- Working knowledge of SANS standards and familiarity with JBCC, NEC or FIDIC contracts.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, Relux or DIALux, MS Office and MS Project.
- An understanding of BIM and model coordination; ETAP or DIgSILENT experience is advantageous.
- Strong technical writing, client engagement and project management skills.
- Experience with embedded generation, solar PV, battery storage and utility approvals will be an advantage.
