Are you an electrical engineer with hands-on experience in low-voltage design? MPRTC Recruitment is looking for an Electrical Engineer to work on industrial electrical systems in Germiston, on the East Rand. This is a permanent role for someone who enjoys the detail of design work as much as the satisfaction of seeing a system tested, commissioned and running properly.
About the company and the work
MPRTC Recruitment is a recruitment agency that places engineering and technical professionals with employers across South Africa. In this role, you would be working on industrial electrical systems — the low-voltage switchgear, control panels and related equipment that keep factories and industrial sites running. The work is based in Germiston, in the East Rand, and will involve travel to sites as part of testing and commissioning.
Role details and duties
The successful candidate will design, review and verify low-voltage electrical systems, control panels and switchgear, making sure the work complies with the applicable standards. You will also oversee testing and commissioning and take responsibility for technical quality. In practical terms, the role covers the full design-to-commissioning journey: getting the calculations right, checking that what is built matches the design, and confirming that the finished system performs as it should.
Requirements
- A National Diploma, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech or BEngTech in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6 or 7).
- At least 3 years’ experience in the electrical design of low-voltage switchgear, control panels or industrial electrical systems.
- Experience with electrical design calculations, including cable sizing, short-circuit calculations and protection.
- Working knowledge of IEC 61439, IEC 60204-1 and SANS 10142-1.
- Knowledge of UL 508A would be an advantage.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.
- Experience in electrical testing, design verification and commissioning.
- Registration as an Installation Electrician would be an advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence and a willingness to travel to sites.
