A Gauteng accounting practice is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager / Accountant to lead its bookkeeping team and take charge of compliance work for a portfolio of clients. Based in Alberton, this permanent role suits a qualified professional who enjoys both people management and hands-on accounting work.
About the company and the work
The role is advertised by Izwe Placements, a South African recruitment agency, on behalf of a client in the accounting services field. The successful candidate will work from the client’s Alberton office in Gauteng and will manage a team of eleven bookkeepers who provide weekly bookkeeping services to a range of clients. The position also involves occasional travel to the company’s Durban office and to clients across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, so a willingness to travel from time to time is part of the job.
Role details and duties
As Accounting Manager / Accountant, you will supervise and support the bookkeeping team and make sure client records are accurate, complete and up to date. Your day-to-day work will include:
- Managing and supervising a team of 11 bookkeepers responsible for weekly bookkeeping services for a portfolio of clients.
- Reviewing Sage Pastel processing, weekly cash flows and related bookkeeping records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Overseeing and assisting with Income Tax, VAT, PAYE and other statutory compliance matters.
- Managing and assisting with CIPC registrations, amendments and submissions.
- Providing training, mentoring, support and guidance to bookkeeping staff and clients.
- Reviewing, approving and authorising payments to independent contractors in line with company procedures.
- Assisting management with financial reporting, compliance and operational processes.
- Travelling occasionally to the Durban office and to clients throughout South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.
Requirements
Only the requirements stated in the original advert are listed here:
- A BCom degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Completed SAIPA or SAICA Articles.
- Strong knowledge of Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, statutory compliance requirements, and CIPC processes and submissions.
- Experience with Sage Pastel Accounting, SimplePay Payroll, Microsoft Excel (advanced level preferred) and Microsoft Word.
- Familiarity with general cloud-based accounting and document management systems.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
The advert states a salary of R25,000 to R26,500 per month, and also gives the annual cost-to-company figure of R318,000, which matches the top of the monthly range. Applications close on 28 December 2026. Please note that the advert asks applicants to send a CV to the recruiter’s email address, so read the original listing carefully before applying.
Where to find and apply safely
The original vacancy is listed on Careers24, and the Apply button on this page links directly to that original advert. Always apply through the original listing or the contact details given there, and be cautious of anyone who asks you for money in exchange for a job, an interview or a placement. A genuine recruiter will never charge you a fee to apply.
Practical tips
Before you apply, update your CV to highlight your articles, your experience with Sage Pastel and SimplePay, and any team you have supervised, since managing eleven bookkeepers is central to this role. If you have handled Income Tax, VAT, PAYE or CIPC submissions, give brief examples that show the scope of that work. Because the role involves occasional travel to Durban and to clients in neighbouring countries, mention your availability to travel in your application if that applies to you.
How the process works
Click the Apply button on this page to open the original Careers24 advert, where you will find the recruiter’s email address for sending your CV. Shortlisted candidates can expect to be contacted by the recruiter or the employer for the next steps, which may include an interview and verification of your qualifications and articles. If you do not hear back, keep monitoring similar accounting roles on this site and on Careers24.
