Mine Overseer




Minimum Qualifications /Experience



Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
Mine Overseer’s Certificate of Competence
B-Tech in Mining or equivalent qualification will be advantageous
Blasting Certificate for Underground mining
At least 5 years of mining experience
Minimum of 3 years underground supervisory experience as an appointed Mine Overseer Knowledge



General knowledge of underground operations
Trackless Mining machinery and trackless mining best practices
The role is appointed in terms of Section 7(4) of of the Mine Health and Safety Act and regulation 2.9.2
Medically Fit (determined by OMP)



Duties and responsibilities



Communicate all legal and operational policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines relevant to area of responsibility and ensure they are implemented and followed
Ensure that safety, health, and environmental targets are achieved by ensuring high personal integrity on safety as a core value as well as understand and apply the safety Management system and ensure that it reflects alignment with the Nkomati Anthracite Safety, Health and Environmental Way and integrate the risk management application
Chair incident investigations
Ensure that agreed upon operational planning and production targets are achieved
Provide input into the effective planning of the rehabilitation of mined areas
Chairing of Meetings e.g., daily production meeting



Ensure effective cost control and that costs are allocated effectively and stay within budget
Ensure travelling ways / belt roads are maintained efficiently and according to standards



Keep the infrastructure up to date with best practice
Evaluate requirements of departmental staff, ensure that individuals are provided with the correct development opportunities, evaluate training courses as well as oversee the development of training material




Applicant must be a South African citizen. Candidates coming from the Mawewe, Matsamo and Lugedlane communities will be given first preference. Upon selection process, potential candidates will be required to provide stamped proof of residence from their respective Tribal Office.

The candidates must be medically fit in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act and the Company standards for medical fitness.
